The Pope's chief astronomer says that life on Mars cannot be ruled out.

Writing in the Vatican newspaper, the astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space.

Father Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory near Rome, is a respected scientist who collaborates with universities around the world.

The search for forms of extraterrestrial life, he says, does not contradict belief in God.

The official Vatican newspaper headlines his article 'Aliens Are My Brother'.

To strengthen its scientific credentials, the Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin.

So, lemme get this straight ...
The RC church gets in first by saying the RC God created aliens.

Bloody hell, this is like the PC vs Mac debate! Who was the first to inspire windows.

Will the Happy Clappers be next to own up to their God creating aliens?

.. and where does George Lucas fit in to all this? Is he the next Jedi Pope?

Secondly, the godly few are acknowledging the birth of their greatest competitor. Is this like admission that he may be right and therefore doing themselves out of a job?

it's actually not contradictory at all. The term alien simple means "otherly" besides thinking that we are the only things God created is extremely narrow-minded if you look at some of the descriptions in the bible of the cheribum they are not like anything we have hear on earth sooo....but that's my opinion

Hey Marge, of course it is, that is why I bring these topics up for debate.

I need to know the mental capacity of the woman I choose, before I give her the best 15 seconds of her life! (That includes the foreplay and a curry afterwards)

Is it so far-fetched to think that God made aliens??

The roman catholic church is notoriously years behind the times and they are S-L-O-W to change.

I can see the Pope in a pope-shuttle nowlaugh

Err ... the problem is
Pope Benedict XVI has sacked his chief astronomer after a series of public clashes over the theory of evolution.

He has removed Father George Coyne from his position as director of the Vatican Observatory after the American Jesuit priest repeatedly contradicted the Holy See's endorsement of "intelligent design" theory, which essentially backs the "Adam and Eve" theory of creation.

and ...

Galileo's opposition to this view resulted in the Catholic Church's prohibiting the advocacy of heliocentrism as potentially factual, because that theory had no decisive proof and was contrary to the literal meaning of Scripture.[7] Galileo was eventually forced to recant his heliocentrism and spent the last years of his life under house arrest on orders of the Inquisition.

and THIS is the problem I have with the whole God Squad thing.

If you have a disbeliever, you sack him or arrest him.

How very forgiving

Pope-shuttle. Wow. That is cool. If they could get it to use holy water instead of rocket fuel imagine the money that could be saved.

smooched Duncan if you did the accent I would have to keep you maybe even longer than 15 secondsbigsmile

yes I see what you're saying about the God-Squad

I know it wouldn't be a very godly or forgiving thing to do to sack someone who questions things. people who seek answers are not worthy of God's grace, seems to be the logic here, how wrong
