Jordan jails three for Bush assassination plot REUTERS Reuters US Online Report Top News May 14, 2008 09:27 EST AMMAN (Reuters) - Jordan's state security court jailed three Islamists for 15 years on Wednesday for plotting to assassinate U.S. President George W. Bush during his visit to the kingdom in November 2006, judicial sources said. They said the court, which commuted their sentence from death to 15 years because they were young, found them guilty of plotting to carry out terrorist attacks and of possessing automatic weapons and explosives. The sources said the three were in their 20s but did not give specific ages. Security officials said the three were arrested two days before they planned to attack Bush. The three, who prosecutors say do not belong to any known Islamist group, were also accused of planning unspecified attacks on the U.S. mission in Jordan and a brewery. Earlier their lawyers said the three were tortured to confess and denied that their clients were involved. Lawyers defending those charged with militancy since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq accuse military prosecutors of manufacturing charges to try to show Jordan's commitment to the United States and what it calls its war on terror. Jordan has rounded up scores of men in recent years, many of whom were either detained or charged for plotting attacks on Westerners. Security officials in Jordan, a U.S. ally, say the rise in militancy is tied to growing anti-U.S. sentiment after the invasion of Iraq. Biggest issue with that part of the country is the same issue we have here in the U.S. Too many people just believe whatever they are told by the local media.

What was to blame BEFORE we freed Iraq? Our policy in Kosovo? Our policy in Afghanistan when we helped the Afghans defeat the Soviets? Damn, we are always to blame. |

Just remember, when you advocate for use on torture to others, you are opening the door for the day that it gets used on you.

He just pisses everyone off ![]() ![]() ![]() Were you pissed off after 9/11? Or after the first bombing of World Trade Center in February 1993? Or after the attack on the U.S.S. Cole? Or after the attack on our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania? Or when they shot Leon Klinghofer, a wheel chair bound man, and dumped him over the boat? Were you pissed after they beat up U.S. Navy Seal Robt. Steadham in the 80s on the tarmac in Beirut? Or tortured CIA operative Buckley? |

Just remember, when you advocate for use on torture to others, you are opening the door for the day that it gets used on you. They are already torturing us. Remember Danny Pearl? The Wall Street Journal writer who had his head chopped off? Read my post above. Get your head out of the sand. |

Hell, yea I was pissed after 9/11 but even more pissed when the idiot of a president we have went after Saddam instead of bin laden. You can name as many of them as you would like and the death toll will not equal the innocents we have killed in Iraq for bin laden's sins. As for the torture issue, we should never advocate torture for the reason that war machine mentioned and also the fact that we are not animals. We are humans and we should be better than torture at all levels. |

He went after Bin Laden first. He went after Saddam later. As for reasons... none of us can prove his real intent. We may speculate, but we lack facts. However, I can say that Saddam was a menace to his own people, and that his removal from power isn't bad in and of itself.

If we weren't meddling in the region, none of the aforementioned events would have happened, we have a bad habit of holding hands with one set of dictators, arming them to the teeth, while waving a bloody fist at others, then when the dictators we've been holding hands with get out of line, we have to overthrow them, while holding hands with new ones... or do I have to mention who armed Saddam in the first place or let's recall that over half of the 9/11 terrorist weren't from Afghanistan,Iraq or Iran, on the contrary, they were from Saudi.
It gets old, if they want to destroy one another, what business do we have playing school marm to the middle east, or anywhere else for that matter? However, I wasn't talking about a bunch of muslims fanatics, I was talking about the Government you seem to love so much, they will have no problems swinging that rendition monster around on the citizenry, that's how tyranny works. As for Lastmanstanding, I'm sorry that happened to you, which makes me wonder even harder why anyone who has had that happen to them would champion the same kind of abuse to happen to someone else. Have we fallen so far that we are now going to start acting like the Barbarians that we claim to want to eradicate? So much for being the beacon of Liberty and Justice. The last place my head is, is in some sand, I hope you have more to bring to the table than some sad little attempt at minimizing valid thought, soley because it doesn't fit with the "O'Reilly" world view. |

That's a joke right? We could have all the oil we need if we'd just drill alaska and get serious about the off shore drilling that we could be doing. Nevermind that before this ridiculous war in Iraq, a tank of Gas was only like 2.10 a gallon. The way things are going, there's going to be plenty of gas & oil reserves, because nobody from the middle class down is going to be able to afford it.
Do you imagine if we the USA drill in Alaska what will happened to all of these countries that have oil,, the OPEC, their wealth will disappear, imagine Saudi Arabia, the Bush business allies. They will become what they used to be before the oil rush, people of the desert. Nevermind the Lobbyists who are pushing big money to prevent that drilling, also, by creating this false sense of entitlement to the oil of another nation, the Military Industrial Complex has been able to bleed this Nations bank account dry by manufacturing a false need for occupation in the region. Oh, and since when does America have a right to any other nations natural resources? If that doesn't sound like something from the days of Colonial rule, then again, "King" George might be appropriate for our emperor who has no clothes. |
