If I Were At That Cross

The day He took that cross on the hill
Would have been the day I cried,
Watching Him struggle with burden
Knowing how hard He tried.
That cross was my burden He carried
That was to take away my sin,
With all the burden He carried
To let life begin again.

If I were at that cross that day
I would have touched His robe,
To feel His power and strength
And the knowledge He'd known.
The day they nailed Him to the cross
And the strength that He bled,
Dying for all my sins
And all the world that He fed.

I would have offered Him a drink
In which for Him to sup,
I would never have given him vinegar
From that little silver cup.
I would have quenched from the blood
So it would have cleansed my soul,
Because I knew what His life meant
And what He has told.

Forgive them Father, for they know
Not what they've done,
You've brought Me into this life
So I could lead them home.
I died here on this cross
As your only begotten Son,
So that they shall live forever
Because I was Your chosen One.
