Macs are truly amazing! I was forced to buy one for college requirements ... and it was hard adjusting but once you learn how to use it... it really is amazing! ALL my friends at school have them (its required) but I know of nobody who has had a problem. If they freeze up or do occasionally have an issue, they fix themselves (just let it sit for 5min and it will fix itself) They are great for creative uses, iTunes, making videos, websites, and editing pictures! Now that I have a Mac I would never go back! I refuse to!

Mac is good for business because of the security modifications that can be done with it that and the fact that not a lot of virus's and such are written to attack Mac's. Other PC's with Windows are good for gaming (aside from the bloody crap known as Vista) but more prone to attacks.

In my point of view both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. But the advantages of a Mac overweigh more and more e.g. stability of the operating system, protection from viruses/less viruses and harmful software at all, all the good and free software like open office, ...
On the other hand, for gamers a PC is much better. My next computer will be definitely a Mac.

You realize thats all based on what you put in it. I bet my PC would own your mac at work.

Macs are more complicated, but they will crash less.

PCs are easier, crash more, but have more Software support.

I am a gamer so I go PC. If you are more business oriented you might want to take the time to learn the mac.

I haven’t been keeping up on technology lately. However, I started with computers before mouse and monitors were even invented. My first computer was an Altair 8800. Data and commands were programmed in one bit at a time using toggle switches on the front panel. The result of the calculations were displayed on a row of LEDs each representing one bit. Being able to read and understand binary was paramount in those days. There was no such thing as an ‘Internet’ or even a disk drive for that matter. Programs were stored on magnetic tape.

When monitors and keyboards became popular there was a big war between PC’s and MACs. They war was primarily a CPU war between processors, 8080 family (used in PCs) and the 6800 family (used in MACs)

Also, the war circles around the different types of Operating Systems (OS). The OS used in PCs was software based (loaded into RAM). The OS used in MACs had many firmware components (ROM). The PCs were designed for versatility. The MACs were more focused toward graphics and word-processing.

Because of this the MACs were much more ‘user-friendly’ for people who like to play games or do word processing. Whilst the PCs were more ‘user-friendly’ for scientists and engineers who were always connecting their computers up to interface with the real world.

There was also much more ‘programming resources’ available for the PCs than for the MACs. For this reason the PCs were more attractive to those who were interested in writing their own programs, whilst the MACs were more attractive to the people who just wanted to use applications that had already been written by others.

The MAC versus PC war was underway.

Bill Gates was the gladiator at the front lines of the war. He wrote the first version of the “Windows OS”. This was a program that could be loaded into a PC and make it more “user-friendly” like a MAC.

The very first version of Windows (called version 3.1) was actually an application that loaded in overtop of the existing PC OS. It was just a user interface to the OS (not a true OS in it’s own right).

That didn’t matter to Bill Gates because he had previously written the original OS anyway. It was called MS-DOS (Microsoft – Disk Operating System)

So it wasn’t long before Bill Gate (and company by this time), refined Windows into a more complete integrated OS. The windows we know and love (or hate) today.

I’m a PC user and always have been. I’ve run ever version of Windows ever made and watched them grow. I’m completely happy with the PC and never had any serious problems with it.

However, I think today the question is basically moot. I think that today both PC and MAC have addressed just about every issue they can. So the differences between them is fading away to the point where the only real difference anymore amounts to the fact that one is called a PC and the other one is called a MAC. Other than that, there really isn’t a whole lot of difference anymore.

You were the one that stated that the processor, memory, and hard drive was better in a mac. I was making the point is that is only determined by what you put in your computer.

I did give advice. I gave pros and cons of both and stated for what functions each performs better for. You shouldn't take things so personally. There is no reason to insult people either.

You didnt read what I wrote either... you just decided you didnt like what I had to say and went off of that. I said what a Mac comes with Standard is generally better than a PC. Meaning a bottom of the line base model with no upgrades... Standard.

I'm not sure why you believe that Macs have better quality components than PCs. Mac and PC are on the same hardware. I checked out the specs on the newest iMac and it's nothing special. The only difference that I can find is the OS and the iMacs have the Mac logo on them.

I run both Mac and PC same specs, the Mac out performs the PC. Thats why.

If the specs are the same (but performance is not), then it's the OS, not the hardware. And outperforms how? There is no way to compare apples to apples, because the same software won't run on both systems, without emulation.

It's already been said, but I will repeat: Mac excel at certain things and PCs excel at other things.

I built my pc, there is not base model. If you are talking about companies.. well each company has several "base models". Basically PC would have lower "base models" to allow them to target a great audience. People that are buying a Mac usually don't want a computer that cant handle much of anything, but some PC owners do.

The difference in your PC/Mac is gonna be in the software department.

I like gaming, so I like PC. You can build a power house for cheap, you can get cool cases, and windows supports more software for gaming and it runs it better too. (most games are built to run on XP... for anyone who is a console gamer.. you can tell the difference on multi platform games. If it was made for the Playstation and they ported it to Xbox it will run better on the playstation and vise versa.)

Oh my God, for the typical person here's the skinny:

Graphics, video, music, free stuff - Mac

Wider range of software applications, lower cost, wider range of peripherials (wihout spending a ton), reliable - PC

Gaming? Pick one.
Virus susceptibility? Depends on the Anti-Virus/Spyware package

I'm an electrical/automation engineer by day, and I DJ every so often, so I have to run both platforms for different reasons. Some applications I wouldn't dare run on a PC, and some applications are non-existent or flat out suck on a MAC. Just the act of setting up a wireless modem on my old MAC a couple of years ago was like pulling teeth (not because of the MAC, because of the limited support at the time).

I say decide what you're gonna use it for. If it's just for JSH, porn, Itunes and pointless activites, then MAC.

If you plan to actually stretch it's legs and use it for anything serious (web development, business, engineering, etc, MAC).

And there are plenty of open-source (free) software packages you can download to replace high dollar items like Photoshop (Gimp), MS OFfice (OpenOffice) etc. You just have to know where to look, or be able to use Google.

Define the problem, find the solution. Opinions are great, but you need to know what you plan to do with the machine first. Chances are, regardless of which one you buy, it will get the job done.

Guess it all depends on your needs/wants/desires. The iMac I am using now has been hands down the best machine I have ever owned. If you're by an Apple store stop in one and talk to them go play around with them if you don't like it don't buy it. Personally using a Windows based PC at work is torture enough for me.

lol I wouldn't say I haven't not ever looked at porn who hasn't any way's ever looked at porn at one point or another even if it was by mistake ?,however I do not any more look at that stuff because it's boring and not just that but you get more virus and spyware by searching through them etc etc.

I don't even use Itunes, I can't ever remember when the last time I used Itunes, the only reason for me to use Itunes is to update it and that's it.


All I basically use my pc for now is downloading photos from family and friends, listing to new and the lastest music, talking to friends and writing stuff up using word pad. As well as just over all searching the net for news and weather and talking to friends, as well as looking for jobs and what not.


I am shock at the respond's I have gotten from every body on here and greatful for every body views and opinions on here about the differences between mac's and pc's etc.


If I can't affored a Mac then I'll try and find a pc with an over all better supposed team that helps you out when you need it etc.

First computer I had was a ZX81, then got the Apple IIe, been on PCs for 25 years and the Beloved's family are all Mac users.

So far, I would not say that the Mac has outperformed my pc, but it certainly has done what I have asked it to.

It might take a bit of getting used to, but then for surfing, music, office apps there is no difference.

If you want to expand your mind get a Mac. Otherwise stick PC

personally i say PC because if you want to install your own OS on one,you have more options with PC.a Mac will only run Mac but a PC will run Windows,Linux,Free BSD...etc


i've found one version of Mac that will run Windows and Mac software though.i've thought about trying it and you can install it on a PC

You can run Windows and Linux on a Mac and the OS it's self is run under a version of Unix.

which ever path you choose (mac,pc) I would sugest custome built.
