My boyfriend of a few months has PTSD and Bi-Polar Disorder. He was in Iraq and a few other places when he was in the military. He hasn't really talked about it other than the comment "If you would have seen some of the stuff I've seen". Is the anything I can do for him. At times when I talk to him he just seems so depressed. And at times he doesn't even call and when he calls me back a few days later just said he was dealing with stuff... Help????? I know he isn't on any meds and doesn't feel the VA is helping him at all.

my dad suffers from Vietnam PTSD, and i suffere from PTSD and Bipolar Disorder as well. The VA just is getting around to starting to help soldiers with these issues...the best i know to do is not to pressure him to talk about it, but let him know over and over again that you are there for him.....when the time is right for him, he'll talk to you about it.

Gawd I wish I had an answer for you. I'm BP w/ depression and PTSD. Even medicated, I tend to "go hermit" when things get rough in my head and heart. All I can say is I'm sorry you are going through that. Hope he can find a way to get some better help. Meds can help. Notice I say can, not do. Everyone is different.

he might need to try medication. there are various support and resources on the web..... google PTSD and shell shock.... good luck!

Therapy and drug treatment can be helpful.... there is also some experimental treatments for soliders.

this treatment is still controversial, but my mentor was part of the first group to test this.

Hi, my son was in Iraq and in an ammo dump explosion. He also has PTSD and even tho it has been 5 years this month that he was there he still has problems. He has started seeing a therapist and that seems to be helping. He has had good luck with his veterans representative. He really helps in out in lots of ways. Maybe he could start there. I know the he still will not talk about what all he seen while there saying the same thing as your boyfriend. Just be supportive and listen when he wants to talk. If he doesn't want to talk dont' pressure him...I am finally figuring alot of this out myself...Good luck! flowerforyou

I know the VA is a bit slow to get soldiers help but the best thing to do is to find him a support group, be patient, and be there for him. The other problem it will take time for him to come around.

Thanks for the Advice. He says it is cool I was in the army so I understand the acronyms and understand what he is talking about. Though I never went to IRAQ...
