My understanding from when I was younger was that the cross is not accurate anyway. I heard that they used poles and that the human body cannot hang from the hand or wrist as portrayed on the crosses anyway. But then again the biblical account of things is very seldom close to historically accurate. It is meant as a parable or something along those lines.
