A Constitutional Conundrum By Brian Beutler The Media Consortium Thursday 24 April 2008 The House Judiciary Committee has taken its contempt of Congress fight to civil court, setting the stage for a legal battle that could redefine executive and congressional power. Overshadowed by a heated presidential-election battle and daily news of a sinking economy, a lawsuit that could change the shape of governmental power is making its way through U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. The suit challenges the Bush administration's attempt to flout contempt of Congress charges against one current and one former White House aide. Its outcome could limit the scope of presidential power by providing Congress the means to investigate the inner workings of the executive branch without having to rely on the Justice Department, which is part of the executive branch. It is a shame that a president of these here United States has to violate his power so badly that new regulations have to be fought for. |

assuming he can control everyone in the entire administration. Might as well tell Bill Gates to control every employee at microsoft. I suggest finding another hobby other than blamethrowing.

Bill Gates does control his employees, especially on the job. I expect nothing less from the president. No blame necessary. Facts are what we are dealing with here. |

Oh, so your saying noone in microsoft ever made a decision that Bill didn't like. If that was the case Vista wouldnt have been pushed back so many years. Just because you are in charge doesn't mean you can control everything.

I expect nothing less from our president. |

No branch of government needs more power than they have now.
President Bush has not abused his power. If you want to talk about abuse of power lets talk about the filibustering that has taken place every time Bush nominates anyone for anything. Every day that congress is in session you loose a little bit of your liberty. |

so whose going to keep congress in check? This is a bad idea. Checks and balances. The constitution was pretty near flawless when it was written. It just needs to be followed and not fooled with so much.

I agree, if we simply demanded and enforced our elected officials to take their oath to the constitution as serious as they do their lives, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in. |
