Topic: How to deal with my white guilt | |
---|---|
There is a young lady I've grown quite fond of. However, she happens to be African-American, and I am Euro-American, so I know that normally she would never be interested in me. But I think she will be if she sees that I'm different: that I'm sensitive, emotionally enabled, and that I am sorry for all the evil my race has perpetuated. But what is the best way for me to do this?

well first .. a persons race is un important when it comes to dating..
the best thing to do is tell her how you feel.. if she feels the same way about you .. then great.. because if she feels that way about you.. she isnt gonna care that ur euro american or any other race other than the one she belongs to. best of luck |

Race is important when it comes to being happy or in love. |

You're not responsible for your entire race so, get off of that soapbox. If she has predjudice's that's her deal. Find yourself a white woman.

I agree with FallinAngel82, I am Malatto and usually go for caucasion men. You might be pleasantly surprised if you let her know how you feel and take it slow. Find a place where you two can be free to pursue what ever you want and express your feelings openly. Where I come from race usually doesn't matter. If you care deeply for someone then live!!!

I'd say just be yourself. You and I can't hold ourselves, or be held responsible for atrocities committed in other times by other people, regardless of race. Which doesn't mean we have to like that it happened, or not learned from it, but we don't have to own it either. Unearned guilt sucks, and not in the good way.

What I really need to know, is how do I apologize to her for the evils of my race? I am working on a poem about all that African-Americans have had to go though. I call it "My Noble Sister". I think if I read it to her with the right amount of emotional projection, she will see I am not the typical evil white man.

I would definitely do something meaningful. Write your congressman. Maybe they can pass a resolution which apologies for slavery ... again.

The absolute best thing to do in this situation is to print out the following document and post in prominently in your home and/or office.

You do that and you will look like a racist - Look up the word - read the third and fourth definition The word is multi-faceted |

You would do good to not make assumptions, because it makes you look like a racist. Why would a black woman not "normally" be interested in a white guy? |
