I'll take an obnoxious position: Feb 17th, Israel launches an attack on
Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran may counter, and the US, with its 2
carriers in place, will be "compelled" to defend Israel.

Or, Iran will swallow the incident and wait for an oppurtune moment
(when the two carrier groups leave the Gulf at the end of '07),
meanwhile giving lots of logistical support to the Iraqi based Shia's.

Why Feb 17? Its a new moon. Whenever a stealth attack mission is
required, it is usually around the time of the new moon. Given the
presence of our carriers, the shake up in the Israeli defence command
structure, and the PM's stepping down, plus GWB's comments last night
about "Shia's being terrorists", that the time is quickly at hand. Add
to it a Democrat move to "ban" any Iranian attacks [meaningless in the
context of the legal powers they granted him in response to 9/11, but
will make for bad PR], and a campaign season about to begin.

well mike, i would have to say that would not be in iran's best interest
to go after israel. consider there brief history, they are not a country
that will back off.

you are missing the strategic oppurtunity for Iran to Nuke the US fleet
in the persian Gulf, and bringing 3 mill Iranian troops into Iraq and
eliminating or capturing 150,000 Us troops with little or no air
support!

fanta i have a hard time thinking that iran would be that foolish.
considering that it is monitored 24/7. while it would be a horrific
disaster, they would just be killing themselves also.i would think once
it was detected that the U.S. would unleash a fury of hell upon that
region.....let's pray it never comes to that.

Fanta..Go big or go home. Obviously Bush never intended to have a full
commitment in Iraq. Rule #1. NEVER try and take a country the size of
Iraq with only 150,000 troops, ESPECIALLY when pretty much the entire
region is hostile towards the US.

Here's question for y'all. Have you heard ANY reports out of the British
sector in Iraq. No. Know why? Cuz these guys have CENTURIES of
experience occupying countries. They even offered to train the US troops
on HOW to occupy a hostile nation, but apparently, the US military in
its arrogance figured that a "2nd rate power" couldn't possibly know
more than them. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean more knowledgable.
