Topic: Question on Buddism? | |

Can someone tell me more about Buddism?
I tried read up on it but some concepts are hard to grasp. The idea of "not self", the belife of that it's not reincarnation but more like "rebirth", and other stuff that I can't recall confused me. |

Buddhism, like many other religions, has varied practices. Not all Buddhists follow exactly the same beliefs. There are even disagreements over whether buddhism is a "religion" or a "philosophy" or both.
I think the primary thing would be the 4 Noble Truths and the 8-fold path. The Four Noble Truths (again there are variations but the basic meaning is): life is full of suffering suffering comes from attachment to transient things suffering can be overcome the 8 fold path is the way to overcome suffering Noble Eightfold Path (the 8 fold path is also known as the "middle way"- Buddhism is about moderation- not total deprivation nor total indulgence). 1. Right View-Mental ability to see things for what they are with clear consciousness 2. Right Intention- committment to improve 3. Right Speech—One speaks in a non hurtful, not exaggerated, truthful way 4. Actions—Wholesome action, avoiding action that would do harm 5. Right Livelihood—One's way of livelihood does not harm in any way oneself or others; directly or indirectly 6. Right Effort/Exercise—One makes an effort to improve 7. Right Mindfulness/Awareness- contemplation 8. Right Concentration/Meditation—Being aware of the present reality within oneself, without any craving or aversion. There are many books and sites about buddhism if these sound like useful goals. Good luck in your search. You might want to look at Taoism as well. |

Hi DD! I was just asking where all the Goddesses were hiding and look who pops in!
I can see that I’ve been slipping in the 8-fold way. Tsk tsk on me!!! I need to focus on #6 for a while. 6. Right Effort/Exercise—One makes an effort to improve I especially need the exercise deal. |

Gosh I can't believe I didn't hear someone calling my name sooner...
Actually I've been working like crazy (too much) and traveling... so haven't been by for a few weeks. Now it's time to come back home and rest for a while. Hopefully I can catch up... with my forum topics and my beach time as well... Missed you guys! PS- any of you herbalists have a cool recipe for me to try for a stuffy head? I was thinking I should boil up some plants and inhale the steam or something but I'm hopeless at which ones... Any thoughts?!?! |

((((((Anoasis))))))
By golly there she is again. We only get to catch fleeting glimpses of her anymore. I heard lemon balm works for stuffy head. It smells great anyway. You can also drink it in tea. But probably works best in a vaporizer or humidifier. You can boil water and make it into a ‘tea’ first, then place it in a humidifier. I heard that sage and thyme also work for stuffy head. I think I could use some myself about now. Fortunately my whole front yard is a carpet of lemon balm so I have tons of it. |

WOW I'm pleasantly surprised that none of the "Christians" on here have attacked this Buddhism thread and insulted the Buddha

((((((Abra))))))) I miss you too... but sometimes I only have a few minutes... so try to catch your latest songs/poems... Lemon Balm sounds yummy. But where to get some? It doesn't grow in my front yard. Maybe at the fruit market? They sell some fresh herbs there... I will inquire. Thank you Abra. |
