MAY THE SUN... bring you new energy by day. MAY THE MOON... softly restore you by night. MAY THE RAIN... wash away your worries. MAY THE BREEZE... blow new strength into your being. MAY YOU WALK... gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life. ~Apache Blessing~ ************************************************************** For the sky was a gift from the Great Spirit... No man can own, buy, or sell... For you "Punz"... ![]() (Croutchty ole' bear smoke peace pipe) |

Grandfather Great Spirit
All over the world the faces of living ones are alike. With tenderness they have come up out of the ground. Look upon your children that they may face the winds And walk the good road to the Day of Quiet. Grandfather Great Spirit Fill us with the Light. Give us the strength to understand, And the eyes to see. Teach us to walk the soft Earth as relatives to all that live. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A Sioux Prayer Translated by Chief Yellow Lark - 1887 Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds Whose breath gives life to the world, hear me I come to you as one of your many children I am small and weak I need your strength and wisdom May I walk in beauty Make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made And my ears sharp to your voice. Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children. The lessons you have written in every leaf and rock Make me strong--------! Not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy....myself Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes, So that when life fades as the fading sunset, May my spirit come to you without shame. This was written by myself long ago, and it correlates with some native American thought, so I thought it would be appropriate...
The Gate Has No Key... For when one truly seeks light One looks with the heart Eyes are of no use They with mind close and start To reveal the true essence A goal for you to know That value when placed right Soon after will grow Filling ones spirit With that which is good Eyes open then once again They now see as they should This world of our life Begins to make sense Only after your heart Removes the old fence That keeps one from themself Always it will so As long as it's there What's inside one can't know For the fence now you see It was placed there by you As protection from fears Do you see what they knew For the gate has no key Access comes from within Fear hides you from you The answer is inside, my friend |

![]() on the prairie, on the lake, in the mountains wherever the heart is open and free... what use have i for keys? ![]() the following poem is often attributed to Nezahualcoyotl but according to the Wikipedia it was almost certainly not written by him... All the earth is a grave and nothing escapes it, nothing is so perfect that it does not descend to its tomb. Rivers, rivulets, fountains and waters flow, but never return to their joyful beginnings; anxiously they hasten on the vast realms of the rain god. As they widen their banks, they also fashion the sad urn of their burial. Filled are the bowels of the earth with pestilential dust once flesh and bone, once animate bodies of man who sat upon thrones, decided cases, presided in council, commanded armies, conquered provinces, possessed treasure, destroyed temples, exulted in their pride, majesty, fortune, praise and power. Vanished are these glories, just as the fearful smoke vanishes that belches forth from the infernal fires of Popocatepetl. Nothing recalls them but the written page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nezahualcoyotl#Poetry |

A Native American myth recounts that the Creator gathered all of creation and said, "I want to hide something from humans until they are ready for it. It is the realization that they can create their own life and their own reality."
The eagle said, "Give it to me; I'll take it to the moon and hide it there." But the Creator said, "No, one day they will go there and will find it." Then the salmon said, "Give it to me; I'll hide it in the bottom of the sea." "No," said the Creator, "they'll get there too." Well, the buffalo came and said, "Give it to me; I'll bury it in the plains." The Creator said, "No, they will get there. They will cut into the skin of the earth, and they will find it even there." But then Grand Mother mole came, the one that has no physical eyes to see on the outside but has spiritual eyes and the capacity to see on the inside, and she said, "Put it inside them; they'll never find it there." And the Creator said, "It is done." |

I'm really glad you posted this thread,... and while I very much enjoyed reading the words of Chief Seattle, I found the Pipe Ceremony posted by S1owhand to be of even more value to me personally,…
This is because I’ve been thinking about becoming ‘more religious’ from a ceremonial or ritual point of view. I haven’t really found too many religious ceremonies, rituals, or prayers, that have ever really moved me. But The Pipe Ceremony is something that I feel very much at home with. It brings it all together, the concept of the spirit world, nature, and man’s place within the whole in a way that is very compatible with my innate feelings of our underlying true essence. So I’ve copied that ceremony and I’ve been using it as a guide to create a ritual of my own that I can use as a medium to religiosity. I’ve never believed in any kind of strict ‘dogma’ or adherence to precise customs. But I’ve always felt that ever person should have customs of their own. I like the ceremony in general and how it uses the four natural directions to symbolize specific spirituality. I think I’ll use a plant instead of a pipe though, and possibly sprinkle various things upon it during the ceremony, like water, earth, wind (blowing on it) and fire (raising it to the sunlight). At the end of the ceremony I’ll plant the plant in the earth. Maybe I’ll end up with a sacred garden whist growing more in spirituality myself. ![]() |
