Yeet! YEET! YEETyeetyeet! *Slaps paw across face*

Anyway, how seriously do you take this whole "dating site" business, eh? Do you really think you will find your "true love" on the Internets? Have any of you achieved this basically impossible feat?

Why do fools fall in love? Why can't love fall in fools? *Weeps at the beauty of her words*

Plenty of sucess stories on this site......who knows about other sites. Sure we all know it is rare, but you can't rule anything out. I'm not looking but waiting patiently, on and offline. I don't want someone to make me happy. I want someone to be happy with. Time tells all. I've make some fantastic friends on this site and for the time being, I'm happy.bigsmile

Is that tobbasco or barbecue sauce?

Here's my take on it --

The whole thing is patently absurd. While I have to admit, that -- in theory -- internet dating could have a lot of potential, given that it provides access to thousands or millions of people you would never otherwise have access to, the reality is that -- in my experience, anyway -- it just doesn't work.

I've met 9 people from dating sites. The first 8 were disasters of biblical proportions, and the ninth is, let's just say, still pending. But pretty disastrous thus far, nonetheless.

I have been on this site for 16 months, have over 9000 posts, and have yet to meet anyone I would consider even vaguely compatible with me. A lot of that is my own fault. I'm picky, I'm non-mainstream, I have certain "requirements" that the average person would not be able to understand or live up to. I'm OK with that, because I'd rather be alone than be with the wrong person.

I have realized, and accepted, that if I'm going to meet anyone, it will have to be through a friend. The only people who talk to me here are 897,000 miles away and there is little, if any, chance we will ever meet in person. I've been on other sites where the locals were extremely friendly and willing to meet (usually that same day), but I'm not going to a bar, I don't care how close you live.

My friends have a better idea of who I am, what I'm looking for, what might have a better chance of working (or serving as a suitable distraction for awhile). If I meet a total stranger on a dating site, she might turn out to be an arsonist (true story). That is a whole lot less likely with someone I meet through a friend.

It does sadden me that I can't find a dating site with the kind of people I could be interested in. But I didn't make the sites, and I'll be damned if I know how to fix them.

A site that would truly appeal to me would have such an extremely limited pool of potential members that it wouldn't be viable for someone to set that kind of site up in the first place.

The smart thing for me to do is just accept that dating sites are never going to work for me, and to go back to doing what worked for me in the past.

I'm still amazed as to how raccoons are able to use computers, let alone log on to dating sites. Who said Darwinism was dead?

As much as I'd like to, it'd be hard to take online dating seriously, as there are even more pitfalls to endure than with normal, run-of-the-mill dating. In the end, you simply have to roll with the punches.
