I would like to learn Spanish so I can understand the other half of the
people that live in our country.
Back in the day when I went to public schools, Spanish was not
mandatory, it was taught as a second language.

Back to foreign languages. You can travel ANYWHERE in the world and be
understood with a little creativity. Go to the poorest 3rd worle
nation. Walk into any establishment, cover you mouth, and start making
barfing noises. They's show you the hole outside faster than you can
blink. This is true. A friend and I got hopelessly lost in a Paris
subway. I started crying and looking quite pitiful. It took no time for
some lady to come put her arm around me. I showed her a match book from
the hotel where we were staying, and WaLa, off we were in the right
train back to the LeRitz or whatever.
