Do you all feel guilty when you call in sick from work? I have been with
the company for about 3 years and I have called in maybe 4 or 5 times
and I have only been late one time and it was only 4 minutes late. I
feel guilty when I call in sick.
I had knee surgery last May and for some reason I am in a lot of pain
today, to where I am feeling it all the way in my hip. I am going to try
and get to the DR tomorrow but I just feel guilty.
I am hoping it is just the cold.

Having worked for a large corporation, I can tell you, that they would
like you to call in only to let them know you are dead! I say take your
time off, get well, and then they will have a better employee for it.
It is management's job to make you feel guilty, but don't!

I know my old bosses used to make me feel guilty for calling in sick.
You hear them talking to other management people saying if people are
sick I just wish they would stay home so the rest of us can stay
healthy.... but when you do call in, you get deep sighs and they act
inconvienanced.

damned if you do... damned if you don't.

One good thing though... if your a good employee and your in a union,
they can't fire youf or that *S*

I felt like putting my two cents in on this one. I used to work for a
company that was very picky and cheap when it came to money. Yes it is
managements job to make you feel guilty but they cannot require a note
of you unless it is 3 consecutive days off. Everytime I thought of
calling out I felt guilty as well at first. Then I relized something
that made me think differently. I remembered that during my anual
reviews they always mentioned that they gave me benefits and that was
part of my earnings. They also told me that when I called in sick I was
paid for it even if I did not have to work that day. That made it far
easier for me to call out. As far as tardiness goes this company had a
system set up where you had to log in on your pc to clock in. You were
only allowed to log in on your to your own pc to clock in. My particular
pc took about 10 minutes to even boot up. They had the audascity to
write me up if it clocked me in even 1 minute past my scheduled time. I
never got a pat on the back even for working beyond my scheduled time
and if I clocked in prior to my scheduled time by more then 6 minutes I
would also be written up. Businesses today want the most for the least.
So take your time and use the system for your benefit like they use it
against you for theirs.
