If you had to choose in order between being 1. Paralyzed from the waste down, 2. Being Blind, or 3. Being Deaf which order would you choose these from you can deal with it, to the worst. I understand all of these things can be life changing. Here is what I would choose if had to deal with them.
1. Paralyzed from the waste down. 2. Deaf. 3. Being Blind last. |

I think it was asked of Helen Keller one time which was worst being deaf or blind and she said deaf.
I know I have on occasion almost been hit by cars because I didn't hear them coming. They are much quieter than they used to be. |

I don't quite see why you would... he's not bashing deaf/blind/paralyzed people... he's just posing a hypothetical about which function you would give up... like asking whether you'd rather throw out all your music, or throw out all your photo albums... except with bodily functions. |

I've been around it all... |

Being Blind last. but these r real life issues... I worked with a paralyzed man for 14 yrs... I'll answer the question.. I don't believe he ment it to be harmful..just something that ppl think about becasue they can be devistating.. 1 deaf..cause there is sign language.. 2 paralyzed from waist down...still many opportunities..vs..comple paralyses.. 3blind...I wouldn't see my children,,my grandchildren..or the sunrise, sunshine or sunset.. Please don't be affended by his question... if intended to be offensive..I am sure he would have just said some crazy remark about being deaf.. these are real life issues that no one wants nor wishes on any one.. ![]() ![]() ![]() considering BOTH my parents are deaf, my sister's Hard of hearing, and my nefew is deaf, and I WAS RAISED in a Deaf household.. ask that question to any deaf person, they would give anything to Even feel for a minute, what it would be like to be hearing, a blind person, what it would be like to see... I've been around it all... I wouldn't say ANY... there are a few out there who've actually refused procedures that could let them hear. Some people actually take pride in their "disability" or rather, their resilience in overcoming their obstacles. I'll admit, it's not something that most people would ask someone who was already disabled, because they don't really have a choice, but many people are freaked out about losing something they have, which is why it makes it an interesting hypothetical. It wasn't aimed as something offensive, but more a chance at introspection, which thing do you think you could get along without the best, which would you regret least? He's not saying that they're any worse off than others, he's just saying it would be a challenge for people to try and adapt to such a change. |
