They probably are saying similar things to other people. The fact is this is the internet. And the point is to get to know people. Many people should interest everyone. As you get to know someone, thats where it gets narrowed down to friendship, or more.

Always the first thing I think - some I reply with a joke about it ...other just get a simple " Thanks for stopping by blahblahblah"

well that is the purpose of a dating site.
get to know some people and to see if there are common interests to see if a relationship is viable u have to try several people as friends, and then see what else can go with ONE. |

Maybe as many read/deletes I get; a form letter as an introduction might be a good way to go. Just click a button and its there. For me , its just as hard to e-mail someone as it is to walk up to a woman in a bar or some such place. Just a short "not interested" is better than a read/delete. Makes you feel like you're not even there. (well you are but...just my 2 cents
