We have a hospice center here in Pensacola and they have a resident cat. He will usually go into a patients room and not leave their side, as if sensing that their time is coming. So far, everyone that he has visited and stayed with an abnormal amount of time with (other than just visiting and making his rounds) passes away. He will often stay on the bed after the person has left, for about a day, and just sleep. It is almost if he is mourning their loss.

The patients that I spoke with say that if they were not terminal, they would not be there, and find him very comforting.

Animals have an amazing sense of life, death and even illness...
