They say if it had been winter the death toll would have been far higher. That's why they are worried about a second hit later in the year.

R = the amount of people one person can infect, so for example 1 means they infect 1 other. We are at around 0.7 so they want to keep the "R" number as low as possible. So
Say the number was 2
One person will infect 2 people and in turn each of the 2 people will infect 2 more so that's 4 and so on increasing dramatically
