The Mythology Club

i'm a fan of norse, greek, japanese, egyptian, celtic, and christian mythology (christian being demonology and angels). it's interesting how such different cultures have many of the same gods and tales.
video games of all things got me to look a lot up. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne dealt heavily with many cultures' deities. you should check it out if you're a gamer. |

Is Atheism a religion?
|
|
i have to say, this is one of the most civilized discussions on atheism i've ever read.
as for my 2 cents.. atheism is not a religion. i understand the initial argument but no, believing there's nothing is not basically a religion. it's more simply a lifestyle. what i've always thought to be the core of any religion are worship and faith- believing against all odds, proof, instinct/ common sense, and/or other popular ideas. neither are present with atheism. agnosticism and taoism are similar, though taoism is generally viewed as a philosophy. i can't really add anything that hasn't been said. but for another good read try Atheism: A Reader compiled by S.T. Joshi. it's a collection of arguments and essays on the subject throughout modern society, some by well-known historical figures. |

L-O-V-E... love

a friend of mine is dating someone twice her age and they get on surprisingly well. i don't know what the secret is but they just balance each other out. it just all comes down to the person you are and the person they are.
and i've been looking at this issue lately from the other end. i've been looking for friends and such about my age but all my interests seem to be bigger with a younger crowd. my personal age range has been 21-29 (+/-4). most teens i've known are immature and older adults i know have drastically different goals or ideals. i don't doubt there are mature 18 year olds nor young-at-heart 30somethings.. but they seem to be few and far between. maybe i should fiddle with my parameters.....??? one thing i know for sure is: only a really mature person knows how immature they are. |
