I have a cousin who is challenged and still at the age of 5 knew who Jesus was and was baptized at 9. From my work with her and her school I think if anything they have a much easier time grasping the concept and accepting it whole heartedly with out the questions we bring about religion.

I hope you go back and read a little, and consider that the knowing of Jesus isn't the sin of a person if they did not have access to any knowledge of Jesus. You are placing too much importance on limiting grace for the religion you are considering, rather than on looking at what grace would be extended by a God with no agenda but love and redemption. i did read what you had, i read and understood it. you have not answered my islander question to my satisfaction. it does not make sense that a person who has never heard of jesus can commit deadly sins through his whole life and have a chance at heaven, even if he feels bad about them. i feel bad about things i do sometimes, but it does not mean that i repented. you know what i mean, there are vital steps here missing for this poor guy. |

I have worked with the mentally handicapped for 13 years... and MANY of them would put most of us to shame on thier understanding of jesus..who he is.. how and why he died...and what he represents... maybe you need to go visit a few and see for yourself!! OK, like i said earlier i should have put SOME, you have to admit SOME will not be able to comprehend what religion or GOd is. Nobody on this planet comprehends what God is. ok then what do you have to do to get into heaven? i don't get it...from my last post it appeared that there is no requirement for how smart you have to be to be religious. how young is too young to be able to understand what God really is? I don't believe any of us will ever understand what God really is while we are alive. So we will always be too young. i thought you had to know God to get into heaven |

What does being mentally handicapped have to do with knowing who Jesus is? Mentally handicapped many times just means that they develop mentally at a slower rate than the rest of us. A 40 yr old may only be 5 mentally. My 5 year old knows who Jesus is.....

I am personally somewhat taken back by this question....not throwing judgement in any direction because you've every right to ask what ever question you want. This just effects me in a very strong way because my son was mentally handicapped and he did pass away in 2001. He was 25 yrs old but mentally he was maybe 10. It just so happened that he was baptized the same year that he died. He chose to be baptized. So he knew Jesus in his own way and yes I do believe he went to heaven where I will get to see him again one day. i am sorry, i know this is a touchy subject, however, it is out of curiousity not out of disregard, and i am not trying to offend but understand... |
