A moment captured Stored and held away deep in the recesses of memory Pushed back by other thoughts and memories Just a scent, a whiff of rose Brings it all back Flooding my senses Overwhelmed with emotion Struck mute and dumb As a tear slides its way down my cheek Just one tear...for there are no more Cried the pain out long ago Now just a bittersweet memory Trailing its way through my mind And for a moment I am once again seventeen Cold gray November day Rain falling as we stand in a circle Around that deep hole Saying goodbye one last time The scent of rose, cloying and sweet Filling my nose as I fight waves of nausea Your ring clutched tightly in my hand The first fist fulls of dirt ringing dully on the metal I walk up , close, letting the ring go It falls, glittering among the earth Turning and walking away In the cold November rain |
