Government funded huge campaigns to show happy, stable, leave it to beaver Disney family style magazines, pictures, and television shows to promote repopulation after having lost a freaking generation or two to war.
The house with the white picket fence, 2 kids, a dog, that was government propaganda, not some kind of zeitgeistian serendipity stemming from "society," American values, or reality.
Unequivocally, and it's studied in many advertising courses, the baby boom was due in large part to government propaganda and government funded advertising, specifically for that purpose.

Feminism, marxism, corruption of the ideology, working against adopted government propagandized myths, the move away from religion, (and many other ancillary things like urban sprawl, deurbanization, divorce laws, birth control, population mobility) all helped to "demonize" marriage. ciretom

IMO this is a huge mischaracterization and lack of understanding.
"People" (not just d-bags) generally want a safe, secure, known, consistent civility. To go along to get along. Lack of social judgment and subsequent ostracizing for non conformity.

They want a social facade. Social reciprocity. "I will dress well, shower, not stink, not spit or poop on the sidewalk, not give in to road rage, not be in your face forcing you to accept my individual personality, generally keep my opinion to myself, live by the golden rule, I will adopt the sheeps clothes in public as long as you do too, so that there is no danger. When I leave the house, things are safe, and conformed to a national cultural ideal standard where boundaries aren't pushed and there isn't too much stress.
I will wait to take off my sheeps clothing at home, in private, behind closed doors, where I can spit on the floor, pee in the sink, not wipe my butt, whatever."

"Angel in the streets, and freak in da sheets," is a shortcut for that.

"I adhere to social convention, I adopt a social facade for the sake of civility in order to give to society and keep things running smoothly, to perpetuate the group, the herd, to maintain the safety of the herd. Today's society the basic infrastructure tells society that men don't need women for anything more than validating pleasure and stimulation.
How much porn is there on the internet?
Are there more porn sites? Or male perspective family planning and facilitating intergender communication websites?

Today's society society tells society that women and men don't really need each other at all, and/or that it's not really a "need," so just shut up and work or buy something to sublimate those pesky human social interaction needs.
What happens when that's the message? People are people and are going to do what people do, so they do what society says...and try to buy each other for their immediate need.
