No I don't think you need to feel obligated to go to the funeral since you didn't know the mother. If it were me I would send flowers and a nice sympathy card to your friend just to let them know that you are thinking of them and that you are sorry they lost their mother.

Welcome back and Happy Birthday!!!!

I don't gorge myself just because it is free. But my grandpa always said food tastes better when it is free.

I stayed friends with my ex for the sake of the kids and grandkids. I knew there would be times we would be thrown together because of them and I didn't want them to feel they have to choose sides. The only time I see the ex is when we are together because of kids and grands. There is no chance of rekindling the spark because he cheated on me twice (that I know of) so I don't trust him anymore. But that's not the kids fault and I don't want their special times ruined by any ugly scened between me and their dad and grandpa.
