I think many fanatics suffer from insecurity about their beliefs. Maybe they worry about what they would do if their belief system was proved to be wrong. They would probably feel very silly and that type of person probably can't handle it.

Looking at what you have in the USA, there is no way I would vote to lose our monarchy and have a President instead! Our monarchy, like them or not, bring in large amounts of money from the tourists who visit this country. Leave them as they are please!

I don't agree with those who inherit a place in our House of Lords. And I most certainly do NOT agree with having bishops there. No representatives from the other churches, Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, etc. That is because we are officially a 'Christian' country and church (Anglican only) and State are connected. When a member of the House of Lords wants to have a say, the 'Speaker' always allows a bishop to speak first. It is one of our ancient traditions that should be quietly forgotten. The House of Lords needs reform - but not total removal as it serves a great use. It should be full of appointed people, former trade union leaders, company directors and others who have had a successful life in business. Maybe a former archbishop, but also one or two former senior people in other religions also - just a few of those.

These will be retired people and perhaps only in office for a maximum of ten years.

How did Adam's children have children? One was killed, so who did the survivor sleep with to make more children? His own mother, Eve, seems to me to be the only female in existence. At least that is so if you believe the bible is literally true.

All Christians (in the UK) (Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, United reform Church members) will tell you that the Old Testament is not to be believed as a historically accurate and strictly true account of life. It is accepted that the stories are allegoric in nature. They are 'fairy tales' designed to illustrate a point, although I don't remember any sort of index which attempts to explain what each story really means. I guess that's left for the interpreters to argue about!

Which is why we have such fun discussing religion, although these arguments are only arguments about religion, as if the existence of a god is already assumed and the argument is really only about what things mean, who said what, who did what to whome and why, etc. None of them actually address the issue, as Tom does in his list of A to F above.

I might argue that 'maybe', 'maybe not', and 'undecided' are actually the same thing. That leaves, 'Yes', 'No', 'Maybe' and 'No comment'. But it's only a very small point.

I would really be interested to know for those who say 'Yes' to which religion they belong? Muslim? Hindu? Jew? Christian (and which denomination)? Or something else I've not mentioned? I've asked before but nobody has given me their answer!

I would say women are more difficult to please than men, because:

Sleep = do not disturb, but it would be better to have a man lying by your side in case you wake up needing a coffee. He can make it for you.

Food = anything that comes from a good restaurant, with a good wine and a big bill at the end. Definitely not something to be made from fresh ingredients by you for your man, that's too complicated!

Sex = (as above)

Entertainment can be anything from TV, games, reading, fishing, motorsport, movies, porn, religion, getting drunk/stoned/adrenaline etc. Maybe not fishing or motorsport for most women, but I have know some who enjoy both of those as well as getting cold and wet on the touchline watching a game involving a ball of some sort.

So, yes, it is more difficult to please women, especially if you include everthing mentioned by all the women who have posted in this thread. If you can do all of that, you've got it made!

No need to be appalled, I have never claimed that I am any more intelligent than an average person! However, there is no scientist I have ever read about who spouts any of the total rubbish that you continually inflict upon us. THey all point to proper research.

Your own insecurity in your beliefs shows every time you call other posters rude names.

Another sign of your insecurity to say that anyone who does not share your delusions must be medically unfit.

Fact is, I am completely certain that science is as I have described it, as indeed have others in this thread. Fact is that you have an unproven belief in some sort of deity but you seem unable to answer the specific questions asked by others without going into long and detailed verbiose statements that actually do not address the question being asked.

Sounds to me like you are just quoting from various books you have read but as others have said to quote from a book that says something meaningful to you is very different from being able to provide proof.

I have several times asked which of the various religions on offer you subscribe to, but you have never bothered to answer that. All you do is 'explain' why they are all 'wrong' because they have different opinions to yours. I have also asked for a reference to any proper peer-reviewed scientific journal that contains research into the subjects that you appear to know so much about, but again no answer, just the usual long-winded stuff that quite honestly I cannot understand.

We all know the fairy tales you believe in and we all know I think you are deluded. To take this discussion I am waiting for your references to proper research. Otherwise we will just go round in circles saying, "I'm right and you're wrong!"

Let's have some clear references please, explained in simple terms.
