that's pretty cool. one day she'll grow up to learn to hate America, though. She's just too young to realize yet. It's a heart warming story.

The Internet has tons of vintage online stores you can buy from many different era's. I live in a city with many thrift stores and you can get just about anything you want that is vintage if you have time to drive around and look in the stores. I think vintage is fun. You can have a vintage dress than everything else modern or use a vintage purse with modern clothes. I think today you can wear anything that you want. Vintage became really big when the celebs started using vintage the past few years. I have been wearing different vintage pieces for years, I just like the way some vintage clothes look. ![]() Yeah, I pay no mind to the celebs, in fact I can't pick out Jessica Simpson or Angelina Jolie in a photo album if you tried to make me! lmao, and I'm not kidding. I mean, I know who they are, I heard about them (I don't live in a cave, after-all) but I really don't care about them enough to recognize them. And I get too busy indulging myself in classic movies to bother learning who these people are. I think all the decent actors died out around the time when Chevy Chase became unpopular. (mid 90s) Anyway, to the topic at hand.. I noticed a lot of good vintage stores online, but a lot have women's stuff more than men's. I really need to get down to a few hat stores and try things on before I can buy off the internet. I believe my hat size is 6-3/4 but I need to be sure before ordering anything. I also understand that vintage clothing of the 30s, 40s.. ran a little small. That their size 34 pant may fit someone a size 32 or 30. I often wear whatever I want, also. Suit, headband, and black t-shirt with Jeans comes to mind. LOL. But now that I've gave it serious consideration... I wanna go for the full effect, I just like it a lot. Where do you look for your vintage stuff? I trust eBay. Some people call it "evilbay" and "fleabay" but I've never had one problem buying there and my feedback is 100%. |

Australia. All I see is those horrible patterns and colours that my parents tripped out on. I would love to see something more sophisticated. You know, you do have an advantage that I'd like to have. Being in Australia.. you have easier access to these famous Akubra brand hats. Oh boy I'd love one of their Bogart's! |

If one does not have an interest in such avenues of literature, then they certainly don't have to read it.
![]() which is why... there is a forum section (poetry) which suits this kind of sutff, right? LOL anyway I'm going to get out of this thread and just watch from a back-seat. Although it may seem like nonsense to me, I'm beginning to enjoy reading it as it's... just weird. Kinda like me. Cool car by the way. I had only just got around to looking into you. LOL. And I hope I'm forgiven for de-railing the thread into two posts of personal side-convo...(which some of you will know just makes me a hypocrite because of something I said in another thread) but Indigo, your email age restriction wouldn't let me mail you and I was just about interested in doing so after going through your profile. lol |

Hello guys & girls. I thought I'd begin a thread to see just how many, if any of you are into vintage clothing and styles? I'm talking Golden Age here, 30's, 40's, 50's. I've always been one for the olden days. Yet I'm doing my dating in the internet? Feels kinda weird, I must say. I want to wear double-breasted pinstripe suits on a daily basis with a good looking Bogart-type Fedora (higher back brim, lower front brim), and a nice wide tie with some nice patent leather shoes, preferably white & black wing-tipped. Yet I'll sit down and watch Star Trek at night. Strange, huh? I suppose it just reveals that its easy to take comfort in the past and look forward to the future when present-day kinda seems to linger along with a rotten stench! lol Any thoughts on the subject of bringing some class back to our everyday wardrobes? I had thought I was alone, but I stumbled on a forum-community called "The Fedora Lounge" (you can google it). and it seems like this stuff is becoming more popular out on the horizon. -Pete I'd just be happy to have the 60's and 70's trippin colours out of of fashion. They're everywhere ![]() They're everywhere? Where do you see these? The 80's are coming back in the US.. not so much 70's, 60's. More 30's for adding color to this thread... ![]() ![]() |

Case in point: Twenty minutes ago I got an email from a man not even 100 miles from me. I responded and told him I was getting snacks ready for the Charger game today in 5 hours and that my DOG and I were going to watch it. He wrote back and said it sounded like I had everything under control. Now, what the heck did that mean? ![]() Exactly what he said. Women are always looking for nuance in men...it just doesn't exist. You gave your plan for the day and he complimented you, because he liked your plan. When you talk to men, imagine you are talking to a child. Children don't have nuance, they say what they mean. Men are the same way. Isn't that the truth? They're always wondering what we mean. Most of us MEAN WHAT WE SAY. lol. Stop trying to figure it out. Anyway, to the OP: Being 22 and looking for men between 19-26 isn't gonna cut it. Start looking for 24-34. They'll be more worth your time I believe. |

Is English your first language? Because I really don't understand what you're trying to say here. ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, it hurts my head to read that drivel. Really.. like she tryin to say people dont use the forums enough? That's the naturally-selective-behavior of forums. If this drivel is a riddle as you say, move it along to the poetry section of the forums. that was kinda asinine is it given to you to be the judge of worthiness of forum posters? Has nothing to do with judgment. Has everything to do with organization. lol I'm not the only one to be lost in this thread. It appears to be a personal convo between 2 people for the most part, and if she expects it to put meaning out there and its some sort of poetry, there IS a forum section where this thread could go over a lot better and bring in much more anticipated responses than general discussion, no? So if that was done, I wouldn't have to read things that make my head hurt, lol.. and SHE would get the responses she expects. (i think). No? It's like telling a butcher not to advertise his products to a vegetarian. |

![]() On the subject of the 40's,my favorite films are 41-57. Watch TCM often. Besides the acting I like to look at the curtains, furniture and clothing the year movie was made. You can't really find too many vintage and 2nd hand stuff on Long Island and I loathe going into the city. I'm glad you have something that works in your area! As for our estate sales, that's another "hum-bug" because Long Island is so bustling a house usually doesn't stick around for more than 70 years... or people are just to busy to bother with an Estate sale and they just throw it all away. Ohio, however is an amazing place for that kind of stuff. You come across any nice Buicks from the 40s thru the 60s, let me know! haha. I been to Ohio once and that was to buy a '64 Wildcat. My friend bought a 1860 Second-Empire Victorian home for under $100,000. I would've loved to have been able to jump on that! Beautiful house. (needs work, of course). TCM is a good channel but I don't get into TV much if at all. I prefer to download something good to watch and do it on my own schedule rather than rush from what I'm doing to catch the beginning of a movie, you know? Usually I catch glimpses of something that looks good on TCM and then go download it because, of course, I'm already 45 minutes into it when its on TV. I can't really say much on purses, I'm a guy. lol. Many of my favorite films are even pre-1940's. I enjoy all the old Charlie Chan movies, Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Moto, etc. "I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang" is one of my all time favorite movies (with Paul Muni, done in 1932). And then obviously the Bogart films, Kansas City Confidential and the later things like 12 Angry Men, etc. -Pete |

I dunno.. I think the Zoot Suit is a bit over the top. The Zoot suit was popularized (mostly) by the same people who wear their pants hanging off their *** and have long histories of incarceration today.
but check these Zoot Suits out anyway.. Maybe I'd buy one for fun, but at that price, no, not really. http://www.elpachuco.com/ I don't know if i'd buy on of these getups, but I would maybe go for some hats they have there, or maybe the ties. I like the shoes they show, the Stacey Adams are nice but I don't like mirror-finish wingtip'd shoes really. I like it to be flat-black. |

But I think the biggest barrier is your e-mail restrictions settings. That's a pretty narrow age limitation you've got there. ^^^ This. You need to open up your world to more guys than the crowd you "believe" you're willing to date. Talk to some of the older, and some of the younger guys. Talk to people who aren't from within 50 miles. Afterall, consider that some of the larger towns upstate like Middletown, Poughkeepsie, etc.. are 100+ miles away.. and that's not that far. A guy might Move for ya. I think you're limiting yourself. I don't think she is limiting herself; I think she knows her limits. If she isn't willing to date too much older or younger, why open her up to uselessness? If she is not willing to date further than 50 miles away, why open her up to uselessness? If she is serious about meeting someone -- it seems she doesn't want to waste her time or theirs. ![]() ![]() Why? Because then she wouldn't have to wonder why no one is responding to her. that's why. First let's discuss the "mileage". When you sign up to Mingle, it asks you for a zip code. You write-in your town. The distance thing restricts way too much going on zip-code. She's in NYC. NYC is big. And she's in Staten Island which is the furthest point south and west of NYC. Guy A travels from his home, which 45 miles from the bronx to work every day. He works 20 miles away from her. His zip-code lists him on Mingle as living 65 miles away from her. See where this is going? This is a guy she may very well be able to meet on a daily basis in her area, but he's not able to e-mail her because... of a 50 mile restriction. Why are you arguing with me about her restrictions? ![]() I simply supporter her preference to whatever she wants in HER profile. She may not be willing to travel. When she asked for profile advice, I'll bet she was more concerned with the type of pix she has uploaded or essay feedback -- and not geography or the age she prefers to date. ![]() During after-thought ... maybe the OP didn't realize her email settings were set to the 50 mile default. In that case we are posting for naught because it was not purposeful on her part! ![]() I didn't think she was asking for advice. She was wondering why "few people" contact her. And setting limits on Who can and Who can't.. is the first reason why, isn't it? And like I said, travel doesn't come into it and it's not all about "her".. What if HE is willing to travel? what if HE works in her town every day and just lives a bit far later on? I understand in California you guys don't have mass-transit worth a damn, but in NY it's perfectly normal for some people to take a 90 minute train ride to work from the lower hudson valley to manhattan. Which would then put someone she can date within her 50 miles, however their profile wouldn't reflect this. |

Sure it's possible.
I have a girl-friend who I've even taken out for 2 dates. Plutonic dates though, and we have a good time everytime. Usually our dates consist of talking about our problems with current boyfriends and girlfriends lol I find her pretty damn attractive, too.. but we dont cross the line. and I find it easy to keep it that way. If there seems to be an underlying tease of a possible relationship ever? thn that's not a good person to keep as a friend.. you click in a non-friend manner and could be dangerous later. |
