It is extremely effective. And it’s downright dangerous. The narrative: 1. Obama is leading a global conspiracy to destroy Russia. 2. Clinton will do exactly the same, or worse. 3. Unless Trump wins, Russia and the United States are headed for war. Simple rewrite and you'd think Russian propaganda was also responsible for a lot of right wing? Libertarian? Conservative? media too. 1. Obama (or oblowme, or obonzo, or muslim in chief) is leading a global conspiracy to destroy the U.S. 2. Clinton will do exactly the same, or worse, than Obama. 3. If/unless (depending on whose perspective) Trump wins the United States will go to war with itself in a race war. Or maybe the Russian propaganda machine just stole the ideas from the far right. Instead of making America the victim, insert "Russia," and bob's your uncle. Putin's people certainly are working hard to fool as many people as they can, into believing that Russia should decide who our next President should be.
That's right! How dare a foreign country try and dictate a sovereign nations leadership! No one else ever has! Next thing you know Russians will be arming and training militia rebels and setting up bases all throughout Montana and Wyoming to secure peace in the region, having nothing to do with oil, maybe invade South Dakota and the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site from intel it bought a gluten enriched yellow cake from a south African working at Wal-Mart, and therefore has to depose the governor due to a preemptive defense strategy. And then hopefully Putin won't come to the U.S. and threaten that if it withdraws from NAFTA that it's going to the back of the line for trade or something like that. Hopefully I didn't give anyone new ideas that no other country has ever ever ever ever done before or even thought about. Oh no!
